BIO 1315 - Intro. to Biotechnology

Credits: 3 hrs
This course introduces students to the various fields of Biotechnology including: Microbial Biotechnology, Agricultural Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Forensics, Bioremediation, Aquatic Biotechnology, and Medical Biotechnology, and the social and ethical issues related to Biotechnology. The course describes the use of genetically modified products used to clean the environment and improve human health. Students will also be introduced to the essential skills required for the common methods and applications of biotechnology/molecular biology. The course is intended for students interested in pursuing a career in biomedical research, government research, and molecular biology. Prerequisite(s): BIO1301 or BIO 2301. (Three one-hour lectures per week).
