SPE 3335 - Problems and Characteristics of Students with Behavior Problems

Credits: 3 hrs
This course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of behavioral and emotional disabilities including etiology, definitions, theory, and teaching strategies. In addition, this course enables pre-service and in service teachers to identify the problems and characteristics of students with disabilities who have behavioral issues, discuss and create appropriate intervention procedures (BIP, PBA, PBIS), analyze the policies and practices that assist teachers to develop and maintain positive learning environments for all students, and plan and implement appropriate instruction. Emphasis is placed on strategies for assessing and teaching linguistically and culturally diverse students who exhibit behavior problems. Field experience required.
