Political Science Major, BA

Students who are working toward a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in political science must complete 39 semester hours of coursework in this area. These courses must include American Government and Writing and Research in Political Science I. The remaining 30 semester hours must include at least one course in each of the following areas: American national politics, political theory, comparative government or international relations, public administration, and public budgeting. Students cannot have a double major in political science and public administration.

In support of the major area, students are also required to complete three semester hours of coursework in each of the following areas: World Civilizations to 1600, American history, economics, philosophy, logic, psychology, sociology, and statistics. Students must complete three semester hours in any computer science-related course. Candidates for graduation with a political science degree are required to participate in program assessment activities.
