English Minor

Goals

  • To provide students with experiences for developing competencies in the process of composing
  •  To help students acquire knowledge of the English language and its literature and related cultures
  • To help students develop skills in analyzing, evaluating, and responding to a wide range of literature
  • To help students prepare for careers requiring a high degree of proficiency in writing, speaking, and critical reading and thinking
  • To prepare students to do advanced work in English and other professional fields

The minor in English requires 21 hours as follows:

Nine hours (three courses) Core:

  • ENG 3306 - British Literature to 1800
  • ENG 3311 - Studies in African-American Literature
  • ENG 3313 - Studies in American Literature

Six hours (two courses) required:

  • ENG 3321 - Grammars of English OR ENG Introduction to Linguistics
  • ENG 3302 - Advanced Composition

Six hours (two courses) required; one must be a Senior-level elective:

  • ENG 33XX – Junior-Level English Elective
  • ENG 43XX – Senior-level English Elective

Students who minor in English must earn a grade of C or above in all courses taken for the minor.
