Therapeutic Recreation |

TRC 4301 - Professional Preparation Credits: 3 hrs
This course will prepare Therapeutic Recreation (TR) majors for the internship and entry to the profession. Students will engage in experiential professional development opportunities. Specific topics include: professionalism, the development of professional quality resumes and digital portfolios, interviewing skills and internship and job opportunity searches. Additional areas such as standards of practice, code of ethics, credentialing requirements, marketing TR, professional associations, and trends and issues are discussed.
Pre-requisite(s): TRC 2312 or permission of the instructor

TRC 4303 - Advanced Therapeutic Recreation Credits: 3 hrs
This course is designed to prepare the student for entry into the field of therapeutic recreation. An in-depth review will be made of assessment techniques and interpretation, charting, documentation, prescriptive programming, and client evaluation. Students will learn roles and responsibilities as members of the interdisciplinary treatment team, and as advocates.
Pre-requisite(s): TRC 3342 , TRC 3352 , and admission to major

TRC 4306 - Organization and Management in Recreation Credits: 3 hrs
This course analyzes the organizational structures and operational procedures of agencies offering recreational services. Emphasis is placed on management theories and techniques for staffing, financial management, personnel management, basic organizational behavior, problem solving, and decision-making.

TRC 4310 - Leisure Education Credits: 3 hrs
This course focuses on the concepts and techniques of leisure education which foster an understanding of personal growth, development and lifestyle. Topics related to the role of leisure in society are addressed as well. Various methods of providing leisure education activities are examined.

TRC 4350 - Internship in Recreation and Leisure Service Credits: 3, 6, or 9 hrs
This culminating experience in the non-licensure Therapeutic Recreation (TR) degree track is a practicum of 120 (3 SH), 240 (6 SH), or 360 (9 SH) hours in the recreation or leisure field. Students obtain a practicum at a site approved by the academic instructor. There will be four class meetings for all students enrolled in the practicum for the semester; the rest of the course is spent under the supervision of the site staff. Regular reports including time logs and reflections on learning will be submitted. A midterm and final evaluation will be expected from the site supervisor. Students enroll in this course after completing most of the course work for the degree. One, two, or three other classes may be taken at the same time as the practicum, depending on the semester hours chosen. The practicum should be completed the last semester prior to graduation.
