ESL 5304 - Language Variety in American EnglishCredits: 3 hrs
The course is meant to familiarize students with the language varieties spoken in the United States. A variety of topics will be discussed such as: the origin and history of American English (AE), its distinctiveness, regional and social varieties in AE, linguistic features of African American English, multilingualism and non-English mother tongue, native-American languages, among others.
