ESL 5322 - History of the English LanguageCredits: 3 hrs The course is meant to examine the origins and development of the English language from prehistoric times to the present. The focus will be on the emergence of English as a national language as well as on the emergence of its visual identity. The stages in the development of English (Old English, Middle English, Modern English, Colonial & Postcolonial English), and variation in English vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation will also be insisted upon.
