HIS 3304 - Islamic Civilization IICredits: 3 hrs. This course is the second in a two-part survey of the lands and peoples of Islamic civilization from the rise of Islam to the present. This part focuses on Muslim states, institutions, and cultures over the last six centuries (from about 1500 C.E. to the present). It includes a brief overview of the rise of Islam and the development of the first Islamic empires, institutions, and spiritual traditions in the medieval Near East, and the spread of Islamic civilization in late medieval times to African, European, and Asian regions.
