SOW 4343 - Ethics in Social Work PracticeCredits: 3 hrs. This course provides an overview of the ethical and legal issues related to the human services professions. Topics include responsibility, competence, duty to warn, confidentiality, professional relationships, and research. Models of ethical decision making and critical thinking are emphasized. This course is designed to give the student an opportunity to examine literature related to ethical principles, ethical standards, and ethical decision making and responding effectively to ethical dilemmas in social work practice. Emphasis is also placed on understanding record-keeping, vicarious liability, informed consent, and confidentiality. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Upper Division and Field Instruction I.
