SWA 3311 - Swahili Culture and CivilizationCredits: 3 hrs This course is a study of the development of Swahili culture and civilization from its beginnings to the present day. It charts the significant historical, geographical, intellectual, artistic, social, literacy and political aspects of the Swahili-speaking world. A special emphasis will be placed on the contact between the Swahili world and people from other parts of the world before colonialism and the eventual spread of Swahili language to other parts of Africa. Prerequisite(s): Passing SWA 2312 with a C or better or departmental approval
