BIO 3335 - Molecular Biology and Biotechniques IICredits: 3 hrs. This course provides the depth of coverage that is needed by students planning on pursuing graduate studies in biotechnology and biomedical research. This course focuses on development of biotechnological skills pertinent in biotechnology and biomedical research. This course will prepare students (using “hands-on” techniques) to perform independent research projects during summer internships, research internship courses, and independent study with a faculty/principal investigator. This laboratory course provides detailed instruction on the performance of many methods and techniques used in traditional biotechnology industries. Acceptable laboratory practices are discussed. Gene expression using PCR, Northern, and Western blot analysis and protein isolation (His-Tag column purification) and analysis (PAGE) are emphasized.
Prerequisite(s): Either a grade of “C-” or better in 1) BIO 3334
