BIO 4376 - Biochemistry

Credits: 3 hrs.
This is a general survey of the chemistry of biological systems.  It includes the study of water, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleotides, metabolism, and energy flow.  The structure and function of the aforementioned molecules will be emphasized. Since biochemistry is the field of science that investigates the chemical and molecular reactions that sustain life, one goal of this course is to study these reactions. This includes bioenergetics, mechanisms, and regulation.  Biotechnology majors must also take the accompanying laboratory (BIO 4176). Prerequisite(s): A grade of “C-” or better in BIO2301 and either BIO 1315 or BIO 2302 or BIO 3335 or BIO 3337
