FLS 2317 - The African Epic and Oral TraditionsCredits: 3 hrs Literature of the African Diaspora in the Americas is designed to introduce students to English translations of literary works originally composed in the languages offered in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. These texts will be studied within the framework of major literary and ideological movements that defined a Black aesthetics in the Americas. Principally, the course analyzes the concept of an African Diaspora and its impact on the literary expressions about the African presence and contributions in the Americas. The geographic scope of the course (from the Seward Peninsula to Patagonia) makes it amenable to different approaches and can be taught by any member of the faculty in the department.
