CHE 2326 - Organic Chemistry I Credits: 3 hrs This course is the first part of the two-semester course in organic chemistry. This course provides an introduction to a study of the compounds of carbon and their derivatives, their relation to each other, their chemical and physical properties, their nomenclature, preparation and reactions. The following classes of compounds are emphasized: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes alkyl halides, and alcohols. In addition, spectroscopy (IR, NMR and Mass Spectrometry) is introduced.
