BIO 1307 - Scientific Writing Credits: 3 hrs This course examines the basic priniciples needed to write successful scientific manuscripts and grant proposals. Consideration is also given to the importance of effective writing skills in communicating with the lay public. This course aims to demystify the science writing process and teach the fundamentals of effective scientific writing. Instruction will focus primarily on the process of writing and publishing scientific manuscripts but grant writing and communicating with the lay public will also be addressed. The course will deal with two major themes: (1) teaching students how to write effectively, concisely, and clearly and (2) guiding students through the preparation of an actual scientific manuscript or grant proposal. Pre-requisite(s): A level II writing course and either BIO 1313 , CHE 1313 or PHY 1321 Student Learning Outcome: Written Communitcation
