SPA 4338 - Masterpieces of Afro-Hispanic Literature Credits: 3 hrs This course is a survey of major literary works by afrodescendientes of the Spanish-speaking world, from their earliest writings to contemporary times. The socio-economic, historico-cultural, political and psychological aspects of their literary contributions are analyzed in depth. Careful attention is given to the poetry and prose of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Distinctive literary movements and periods germane to the Afro-Hispanic experience will be underscored. Key authors and their major works will be examined within the framework of the African American Diaspora, and the broader literary canon of Latin American literature. Pre-requisite(s): SPA 3333 or SPA 3335 or permission of the department
