ENG 3349 - The Vernacular in African-American Literature and Culture Credits: 3 hrs This course is designed to introduce students to the vernacular tradition in African American Literature through an examination of the folk literature, the sermons, prayers, songs, etc. that are primarily a part of the oral tradition of black expression. This course is designed to increase students’ awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of the richness of the African American vernacular and the significant role it plays in the literature written by African Americans. Pre-requisite(s): ENG 2301 /ENG 2302 , Junior Status, or permission of instructor
