HIS 3332 - Cultural Dimensions of the African American Experience in the Caribbean Credits: 3 hrs This course examines the cultural dimension of the African experience in the Caribbean from sixteenth-century to the contemporary period. The course will specifically examine the cultural history of African peoples in the Caribbean region, their cultural innovations, interactions and exchanges, and the continuity or discontinuity of African culture in the Americas. Using a culture concept that encompasses spiritual, ideational, and physical-materials dimensions, the course advances an interdisciplinary approach as both conceptual foundation and as a tool for analyzing, reading, writing, and talking about the course content.
