SOC 4311 - Sociology of the African American Credits: 3 hrs This course examines the social, economic and political characteristics of African Americans from serveral angles. First, it examines the position of African Americans within the US ethnic stratification structure. Next, the course examines explanations of racial inequality in the US followed by its effect on African American men and women in terms of income, jobs, education and health. As part of this process the course examines in great depth the contemporary trends in attitudes towards African Americans.
