SPA 2325 - Introduction to Latino Literature Credits: 3 hrs This course is a survey of literature by people of Latin American descent who are living in the U.S. Contemporary works will be read and analyzed with respect to identity, cultural heritage and social issues such as immigration, racism, sexuality, and socio-economic standing. All of the works to be studied have been written in English. These include short stories, novels, poems, song lyrics, and articles from academic journals. Some attention will be given to cultural representations and stereotypes in film. Samples of music, art, and other historical artifacts that reflect Latino culture will also be introduced.
