HIS 3304 - Islamic Societies, Cultures and Thought in the Modern World Credits: 3 hrs This course is the second in a two-part survey of Muslim communities, institutions and lands from the rise of Islam to the present. This part focuses on Muslim societies, cultures, institutions, and thought over the last six centuries (from about 1500 C.E. to the present). It includes a brief overview of the spread of Islam and the development of the Islamic empires, institutions, and spiritual traditions int he late medieval period, and the spread of Islamic culture and thought to diverse societies in Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
