NUR 7316 - Healthcare Equity: Epidemiology and Social Determinants of Health Credits: 3 hrs This course focuses on societal, economic, cultural and global factors that affect population health and well-being on contemporary U.S. society. The course will use descriptive and inferential statistics to explore healthcare inequalities. The epidemiological profile of disenfranchised populations will be examined utilizing the integration of study design, public health surveillance, methods of control, prevention, and evaluation. Student Learning Outcome(s): Upon completion of the Healthcare Equity Epidemiology course (NUR 7316) students will demonstrate the ability to:
(1) Evaluate the relationship among access, cost, quality, and safety and their influence on healthcare.
(2). Evaluate the impact of specific population health problems that are influenced by social and economic determinants.
(3). Analyze major theoretical perspectives and concepts relevant to social determinants of health.
(4). Apply appropriate epidemiological techniques for addressing question/problem of interest.
(5). Utilize epidemiological databases to explore risk factors and health outcome relationships.
