PHT 5107 - Human Neuroscience Lab

Credits: 1 hr.

This course provides a laboratory dissection experience covering the normal gross anatomical structures and relationships of the brain and spinal cord. Published atlases of cross sections, heuristic models and connectional diagrams are used to emphasize the three-dimensional and serial connections and relationships essential to understanding development, normal function and clinical neurology. The course provides one or two structured lab exercises in four units for identifying and applying the essential concepts of the gross structures, sensory and motor pathways, and connections that underlie reflex, automatic, cognitive, and emotional behaviors.  Frequent clinical correlations and case studies provide for the classification, application and analysis of the potential impact of trauma, disease, and abnormal development as major contributors to structural variation and functional disability.  This course has a large web-assisted component and must be combined with the concurrent 3 credit hour Human Neuroscience lecture course.
