Life Sciences

Vision

The Department of Life Sciences will be premier in discovery and dissemination of scientific knowledge, fostering professional growth of faculty members and students, as a benefit to the community.

Goals

Departmental goals include the following:

  1. To provide courses to increase students’ understanding of the process of science, of the living world, and of the concepts and vocabulary needed for scientific literacy in biology.
  2. To provide basic science courses for students seeking admission to allied health programs.
  3. To provide major programs to prepare graduates in biology and molecular biology for entry into graduate schools, healthrelated professional schools, and positions in technological and industrial firms.
  4. To provide excellent advising and mentoring.
  5. To provide an atmosphere and infrastructure conducive to scholarly and creative activities.
  6. To improve teaching effectiveness.
  7. To provide service to the University and the community.
