The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Work houses three degree programs—gerontology, sociology, and social work.
In addition to providing specialized instruction to students majoring or minoring in these programs, the department offers courses that meet requirements of the university’s General Education Curriculum, as well courses that support majors in other disciplines.
Department programs emphasize student mastery of discipline-specific content, critical thinking, and oral and written communication skills. As an integral part of the educational process, faculty and students engage in scholarly research. Program graduates are prepared to enter graduate or professional school or to pursue immediate employment.
The Social Work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
