English Minor
Goals
- To provide students with experiences for developing competencies in the process of composing
- To help students acquire knowledge of the English language and its literature and related cultures
- To help students develop skills in analyzing, evaluating, and responding to a wide range of literature
- To help students prepare for careers requiring a high degree of proficiency in writing, speaking, and critical reading and thinking
- To prepare students to do advanced work in English and other professional fields
The minor in English requires 21 hours as follows:
Nine hours (three courses) Core:
- ENG 3306 - British Literature to 1800
- ENG 3311 - Studies in African-American Literature
- ENG 3313 - Studies in American Literature
Six hours (two courses) required:
- ENG 3321 - Grammars of English OR ENG Introduction to Linguistics
- ENG 3302 - Advanced Composition
Six hours (two courses) required; one must be a Senior-level elective:
- ENG 33XX – Junior-Level English Elective
- ENG 43XX – Senior-level English Elective
Students who minor in English must earn a grade of C or above in all courses taken for the minor.
