Goals:
- To provide students with experiences for developing competencies in the process of composing
- To help students acquire knowledge of the English language and African-American Literature
- To help students develop skills in analyzing, evaluating and responding to a wide range of African-American literature
- To help students prepare for careers requiring a high degree of proficiency in writing, speaking, and critical reading and thinking
- To prepare students to do advanced work in African-American literature and other professional fields
Students who minor in African-American Literature must earn a grade of C or above in all courses taken for the minor. The minor in African-American Literature requires 18 hours. Courses should be chosen from among the following:
ENG 3311—Studies in African-American Literature (Offered Fall)
ENG 3334 – Literature of the African Diaspora (Offered Fall – Alternate Years)
ENG 3349 – The Vernacular in African-Amer. Literature & Culture (Offered Spring – Alternate Years)
ENG 3344: The African-American Novel (Offered Spring – Alternate Years)
ENG 4344 – African-American Cultural Texts: 1965 to the Present (Offered Spring – Alternate Years)
ENG 4328 – African-American Women Writers (Offered Fall – Alternate Years)
