Minor in Spanish – 18 credit hours
The minor in Spanish requires 18 credit hours of coursework beginning with SPA 2311 -Intermediate Spanish I. All courses for the minor must be taken and completed with a grade of C or better.
SPA 1311 -Elementary Spanish I and SPA 1312 -Elementary Spanish II will not count towards the minor in Spanish.
Student Learning Outcomes
At the successful completion of the minor students will:
1. Demonstrate intermediate level of foreign language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and culture.
2. Be able to apply critical thinking, and analytical reasoning to the linguistic, literary, historical and cultural components of the language.
3. Demonstrate understanding of the five goals of world language study: communication, cultures, connection, comparisons, and communities.

SPA 3320 - Introduction to Pre-Columbian Cultures and Civilizations
SPA 3316 - Spanish Conversation and Pronunciation
Depth Course (3 SH)
Students will acquire a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture by taking one of the following courses:
SPA 3333 - Survey of Spanish Literature
SPA 3335 - Survey of Spanish-American Literature
SPA 3339 - Survey of Latino Literature
SPA 4338 - Masterpieces of Afro-Hispanic Literature
Additional Courses for the Minor
Students for the minor may get approval to take other advanced level Spanish courses offered in the department except SPA 4391 - Senior Seminar in Spanish.
Minor Requirements
The minor in Spanish will allow up to 6 transferable credits in courses in Spanish language and culture, or courses related to the Spanish-speaking world from institutions other than WSSU.
