Recreation Minor

Program Description

A minor in recreation is a useful tool for students with a major in any human service field, leisure services business area, or an interest in learning about the role of recreation and leisure in society and lifestyle. A minimum of 18 hours is required for the minor in recreation. To satisfy requirements for the minor students must complete the courses listed below. TR Program faculty advise students for the minor in recreation.

• Required Courses (to be taken in the following order):

• TRC 1307 - “Play It Like You Mean It!”: Analysis and Application of Recreation Activities Credits: 3 hrs
• TRC 1311 - Leisure and Society Credits: 3 hrs
• TRC 3318 - Leadership and Supervision in Recreation Credits: 3 hrs

• A minimum of nine (9) hours must be completed from the following list:

• TRC 1301 - Outdoor Recreation: Foundations and Experiences Credits: 3 hrs, Fall Only
• TRC 1305 - Living Well! Benefits of Leisure for People with Disabilities Credits: 3 hrs
• TRC 2312 - Foundations of Therapeutic Recreation Credits: 3 hrs
• TRC 3301 - Leisure and Aging Credits: 3 hrs
• TRC 3323 - Program Planning in Recreation Credits: 3 hrs  (pre-requisite is TRC 1311 - Leisure and Society )
• TRC 3350 - Youth and Adolescent Adventure Program Development Credits: 3 hrs
• TRC 2313 - Environmental Issues, Education, and Ethics Credits: 3 hrs
• PED   various physical education activity courses to learn new activity skills)
