Spanish for Healthcare and Professions Minor

The Spanish for Healthcare and Professions Minor will help students develop targeted communication skills, cultural knowledge, and global perspectives and understanding that are currently demanded in any professional environment. The Spanish for Healthcare and Professions Minor will provide students with opportunities to participate in internships that require the use of their Spanish language skills. Courses in the Spanish for Healthcare and Professions Minor will help graduates to work with the growing Hispanic population in a more efficient manner.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Students will develop abilities to listen, speak read, and write in Spanish, with a focus on professional areas.
Students will acquire real-world skills to better interact and serve the Spanish speaking community at a local or national level.
Students will develop intercultural competence, demonstrating knowledge of other cultures’ practices and their norms in professional settings.
Students will apply their Spanish language skills in a professional setting.

Prerequisite

SPA 1311 - Basic Spanish for Beginners Credits: 3 hrs or equivalent

SPA 2321 - Spanish for the Professions I Credits: 3 hrs
and one of the following courses
SPA 2320 - Spanish for International Affairs Credits: 3 hrs
or
SPA 2309 - Intermediate Spanish Conversation Credits: 3 hrs
or
SPA 2311 - Intermediate Spanish I Credits: 3 hrs
SPA 33XX - Spanish for Professions II Credits: 3 hrs
(medical, legal, business-topics on rotating basis)
SPA 3323 - Cultures of the Spanish-Speaking World Credits: 3 hrs
or
SPA 4390 - Special Topics or Readings in Hispanic Culture Credits: 3 to 9 hrs
SPA 4093 - Spanish Internship Credits: 3-6 hrs
