Motorsport Management

  
  • MSM 4301 - Operational Logistics in Motorsport

    Credits: 3 hrs
    This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully address the many operational issues specific to motorsport. Topics to be discussed include securing travel arrangements for team members, organizational methods of preparing team haulers for racing events, show car logistics, arranging driver appearances, and team merchandise production and sales.
  
  • MSM 4302 - Motorsport Management Seminar

    Credits: 3 hrs
    This is a senior level course designed to examine current trends and issues within the motorsport industry. Students will be required to identify problems within various motorsport settings, as well as develop and articulate appropriate solutions. This course will involve field experiences within applied motorsport settings.
  
  • MSM 4303 - Internship in Motorsport

    Credits: 12 hrs
    This is the senior level capstone course. Students will participate in a semester-long experiential learning setting within their chosen motorsport concentration area. Policies and procedures for this experience are found in the Motorsport Management Internship Handbook.

  • MUS 1101 - Sight Singing and Ear Training I

    Credits: 1 hr
    In this course, students must be able to perform—accurately and musically—simple sight melodies (rhythm and pitch). They must be able to take simple rhythmic and diatonic, melodic, and harmonic dictations. Corequisite(s): MUS 1201. (Two hours per week.)
  
  • MUS 1102 - Sight Singing and Ear Training II

    Credits: 1 hr
    This course is a continuation of Sight Singing and Ear Training I with an entry into chromaticism through secondary dominants. Prerequisite(s): MUS 1101. (Two hours per week.)
  
  • MUS 1109 - Piano Class (non-majors only)

    Credits: 1 hr
    This is a class for non-music majors. Students acquire keyboard experience and functional piano skills. This course may be repeated a maximum of four times for credit. (One hour per week.)
  
  • MUS 1111A-01 - Applied Music – Piano

    Credits: 1 hr
    These courses consist of private instruction. Unless instructed otherwise, students should take one half-hour lesson per week (1 credit). A minimum of one hour practice per day per credit hour is required of ALL non-majors enrolled in private lessons. All majors are required to perform in a student recital at least once each semester on their minor instrument. Each year of study is divided into two parts: Section A and Section B. In these courses students become acquainted with the keyboard and acquire facility in scales, sight reading, transposition, accompanying from the public school music series, and performance. This is required of all music majors whose major performance area is not the keyboard in preparation for the music proficiency examination. (One hour per week.)

  • MUS 1111B-01 - Applied Music – Piano

    Credits: 1 hr
    These courses consist of private instruction. Unless instructed otherwise, students should take one half-hour lesson per week (1 credit).     Credits: 1 hr
    In these courses attention is given to the development of tone production, principles of correct breathing, diction, and the study, interpretation, and performance of songs in English, Italian, German, and/or French. The repertoire includes art songs, folk songs, arias, and recitatives from operas, oratorios, cantatas, and other music dramas. Students must exhibit a working knowledge of reading the treble and/or bass clefs. The selection of material for studio instruction is designed for each individual. Classes are open to all non-vocal music majors with the permission of the instructors and/or any student seeking voice as a minor performing instrument by audition only. (One hour per week.)

  • MUS 1116 - Accompanying Class

    Credits: 1 hr
    This is a class for piano majors and advanced piano students. It deals with the study of the techniques of accompanying ensembles and soloists. Students are assigned a voice and/or instrumental major and are responsible for accompanying these soloists during voice/instrumental class and performance. Each piano major may be assigned by a teacher to work with students according to ability—with or without credit.

    Credits: 1 hr
    These courses will provide instruction in any of the woodwind instruments. They will focus on the development of the fundamentals of playing such as tone production, articulation, chromatic scales, and major/minor scales. Literature appropriate to the students’ performance level will be assigned. These courses may be taken by music majors for instruction on a minor performing instrument or by non-music majors with permission of the instructor. (One hour per week.)

    Credits: 1 hr
    This group of courses is open to any college student by audition. It acts as a marching unit during the football season and is thereafter reorganized as a pep band. Marching band is required of band instrument majors. Ensembles may be taken at any time and must be related to the area of the student’s performing instrument. Students are encouraged to take at least one ensemble each semester. These courses may be taken by music majors and by non-music majors and may be repeated for credit.

    This group of courses is open to any college student who can play an instrument well enough to qualify. It is dedicated to the performance of literature of the highest caliber. Audition or instructor approval required. It is required of band instrument majors. Ensembles may be taken at any time and must be related to the area of the student’s performing instrument. Students are encouraged to take at least one ensemble each semester. These courses may be taken by music majors and by non-music majors and may be repeated for credit.

  • MUS 1131 - University Choir

    Credits: 1 hr
    This ensemble provides an opportunity to study, rehearse, and perform a variety of choral literature. The choir performs frequently on campus and in the community, with periodic appearances out of town, on television, and with band and orchestra. Admission is by audition only. This ensemble is required of all voice majors. (Meets daily.) Ensembles may be taken at any time and must be related to the area of the student’s performing instrument. Students are encouraged to take at least one ensemble each semester. These courses may be taken by music majors and by non-music majors and may be repeated for credit.
  
  • MUS 1136 - Schola Cantorum

    Credits: 1 hr
    This ensemble studies, rehearses, and performs a variety of choral music written for tenor and bass voices. It is suggested that this class be taken in conjunction with MUS 1131—University Choir. Enrollment by audition only. Ensembles may be taken at any time and must be related to the area of the student’s performing instrument. Students are encouraged to take at least one ensemble each semester. These courses may be taken by music majors and by non-music majors and may be repeated for credit.
  
  • MUS 1138 - University Singers

    Credits: 1 hr
    This is a small ensemble of select voices which gives special attention to the performance of African-American sacred music, civil rights support songs, and world political awareness songs. Enrollment by audition only. Ensembles may be taken at any time and must be related to the area of the student’s performing instrument. Students are encouraged to take at least one ensemble each semester. These courses may be taken by music majors and by non-music majors and may be repeated for credit.
  
  • MUS 1141 - Woodwind Ensemble

    Credits: 1 hr
    This ensemble is designed to give the student an opportunity to perform representative works in this field of music literature. Enrollment by audition only. Ensembles may be taken at any time and must be related to the area of the student’s performing instrument. Students are encouraged to take at least one ensemble each semester. These courses may be taken by music majors and by non-music majors and may be repeated for credit.
  
  • MUS 1146 - Jazz Ensemble

    Credits: 1 hr
    This ensemble is designed to give students an opportunity to play the works of many jazz artists and to develop an appreciation for the origin of this musical form. The ensemble is open to all students on a competitive basis and with the approval of the instructor. Audition required. Ensembles may be taken at any time and must be related to the area of the student’s performing instrument. Students are encouraged to take at least one ensemble each semester. These courses may be taken by music majors and by non-music majors and may be repeated for credit.
  
  • MUS 1151 - Brass Ensemble

    Credits: 1 hr
    The purpose of the Brass Ensemble is to give the student an opportunity to perform representative works in brass ensemble literature. Open to students who qualify. Ensembles may be taken at any time and must be related to the area of the student’s performing instrument. Students are encouraged to take at least one ensemble each semester. These courses may be taken by music majors and by non-music majors and may be repeated for credit.
  
  • MUS 1161 - Percussion Ensemble

    Credits: 1 hr
    This course is designed to give the student experience in developing the percussion techniques of playing and teaching instruments. It will be limited in enrollment, and instructor approval is required. Ensembles may be taken at any time and must be related to the area of the student’s performing instrument.   • MUS 1163 - Guitar Ensemble

    Credits: 1 hr
    This ensemble is designed to give students an opportunity to perform representative works in this field of music literature. It is required of guitar majors and is open to other students who qualify. Ensembles may be taken at any time and must be related to the area of the student’s performing instrument.     This ensemble focuses on the development of performance skills on various components of a steel drum ensemble and the playing of traditional and non-traditional literature for the ensemble. This group is comprised of music and non-music majors. Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.     Credits: 2 hrs
    This is a developmental course covering the fundamentals of music notation, major and minor key signature identification and notation, writing of major and minor scales, and the identification and writing of simple and compound time signatures. The recognition and construction of major, minor, diminished, and augmented triads will also be a focus as well as writing in the bass, tenor, and alto clefs. The computer laboratory and appropriate software will be utilized for out-of-class drill.
