REH 5301 - Foundations of Rehabilitation CounselingCredits: 3 hrs The purpose of this course is to provide graduate students with the following: 1. Foundational knowledge of the history and philosophy of rehabilitation with regards to legislation affecting individuals with disabilities; 2. Organizational structure of the vocational rehabilitation systems that is inclusive of public, private, for-profit, and not-for-profit service delivery settings; 3. Laws and ethical standards governing the profession of rehabilitation counseling; 4. Social issues as they relate to people with disabilities in the decision-making process; and 5. Consumer empowerment that is relevant to choice and responsibility during the rehabilitation process.
