HCM 3325 - Introduction to Health Economics and Financial Management Credits: 3 hrs This course is designed to introduce fundamental concepts of health economics and healthcare financial management. It examines the importance of economics in healthcare decisions, both demand and supply-side factors, and how public policy influences the economy of healthcare. The course also explores the current system of financing healthcare and factors affecting it as well as healthcare financial management at the facility level, including but not limited to understanding financial statements purposes, an introduction to pro forma income statements and Excel, operating and capital budgeting, managing financial resources by budget variance analysis, the financial relationship among volume, revenue and expenses, and also state and federal systems and private insurance issues and the relationship to disparities.
