EXS 4320 - Exercise and Mechanisms of Human Disease

Credits: 3 hrs
This course will provide an in-depth examination of major diseases and disorders for students in a variety of academic programs within the health professions. Major diseases and disorders will be described with focus on pathologies that limit or restrict function of the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems, relevant to future healthcare professionals. Students will learn basic background material via study of fluid and electrolyte imbalances, acid-base imbalances, inflammatory responses, pain, and immunity. Following basic background material, students will learn about musculoskeletal system disorders, nervous system disorders, complications of aging, and immobility and associated problems. Students will learn structure and (dys)function at the cellular and whole-body levels. 
Pre-requisite(s): EXS 3321 - Exercise Physiology  (grade of C or better) and EXS 3411 - Functional Anatomy  (grade of C or better)
