Mathematics

Mission

The Department of Mathematics offers a major program in mathematics, a major program option in applied mathematics, and a major program in mathematics with secondary education teacher certification. The department also offers a minor program in mathematics, general education mathematics courses, and support courses for students majoring in other areas.

Goals

The goals of the Mathematics Department are to:

  1. Prepare graduates for entry-level positions in teaching, business, industry and government, or for graduate study.
  2. Develop in the mathematics major the required skills to solve problems, think critically, and communicate mathematically.
  3. Develop skills to solve problems and think critically within the framework of a liberal education.
