Students who seek the Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in sociology must have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average to enter the program. To receive the degree they must complete the following courses with a grade of C or better: SOC 2301 General Sociology, SOC 2326 Elementary Statistics, SOC 3342 Sociological Theory, SOC 3352 Methods of Social Research, and SOC 43xx Senior Seminar. They must also complete another 18 semester hours of courses in Sociology, with a grade of C or better in each course. Sociology majors may choose to take Internship in Sociology in addition to the 33 hours specified above.
In support of the major area, students must take six semester hours of one foreign language and three semester hours each in economics, geography, and philosophy.
Sociology majors are required to select a minor from another area. Candidates for a sociology degree are required to participate in program assessment activities.

Arts and Science
Objectives
- To prepare students for immediate employment in social work following graduation.
- To provide students with a basic understanding of theories, concepts and principles of social work practice.
- To provide students with an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills gained in the classroom.
- To prepare students for graduate study in social work or related fields.
Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology with a concentration in social welfare must complete the following courses with a grade of C or better: Required Major Courses (54 hours)

Students electing this concentration should notify the program coordinator by the second semester of their sophomore year. Elective Courses in Sociology
For those electing courses in sociology, as well as those outside the field with a required course in sociology, there is no prerequisite for 2000-level courses; however, General Sociology (SOC 2301) is a prerequisite for all 3000- and 4000-level courses.
