Birth – Kindergarten Minor

Program Description


The program of study for the Birth-Kindergarten Education minor consists of a minimum of 21 semester hours. This program does not qualify the student for initial teacher licensure in North Carolina. Hours completed, however, may be used to satisfy requirements in an approved program. Consult your advisor.

Required courses for the minor to be taken in the following order:  

Articulation Agreement between PIU and WSSU


This new track represents an articulation agreement between Piedmont International University (PIU) and Winston-Salem State University (WSSU).  This articulation agreement will allow students from PIU to seamlessly transfer into the Elementary Education program.

While at PIU, students are required to take the following courses:


ED 201  Foundations of Education, Credit Hours 3

ED 203  Diverse Learner, Credit Hours 3

ED 302  Human Growth and Development, Credit Hours 3

ED 303  Educational Assessments, Credit Hours 3

ED 305  Educational Technology, Credit Hours 3

ED 304 Methods & Materials of Elementary PE & Health, Credit Hours 3

ED 307  Teaching Science in the Elementary School, Credit Hours 3

ED 309 Teaching Reading & Lang Arts, Credit Hours 3

EE 405  Teaching Elementary Fine Arts, Credit Hours 3
