Spanish Minor

Program Description


The minor in Spanish requires 18 credit hours of coursework beginning with SPA 2311 - Intermediate Spanish I . All courses for the minor must be taken and completed with a grade of C or better.

SPA 1311 - Basic Spanish for Beginners  and SPA 1312 - Elementary Spanish  will not count towards the minor in Spanish.

Student Learning Outcomes


At the successful completion of the minor students will:

1. Demonstrate intermediate level of foreign language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and culture.

2. Be able to apply critical thinking, and analytical reasoning to the linguistic, literary, historical and cultural components of the language.

3.  Demonstrate understanding of the five goals of world language study: communication, cultures, connection, comparisons, and communities.

Students will acquire a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture by taking one of the following courses:

Additional Courses for the Minor


Students for the minor may get approval to take other advanced level Spanish courses offered in the department except SPA 4391 - Senior Seminar in Spanish .

Minor Requirements


The minor in Spanish will allow up to 6 transferable credits in courses in Spanish language and culture, or courses related to the Spanish-speaking world from institutions other than WSSU.
