Special Education Minor

Program Description

The special education minor will provide students interested in individuals with special needs foundational knowledge of the field.  The minor program of study in special education consists of a total of 18 credit hours, 12 which are prescribed and 6 special education electives. This program does not qualify the student for initial teacher licensure in North Carolina.  Hours completed, however, may be sused to statisfy requirements in an approved program.

Required Courses

• SPE 2310 - Introduction to Exceptional Individuals Credits: 3 hrs
• SPE 2320 - Transition Service Delivery for Students with Disabilities Credits: 3 hrs
• SPE 3320 - Characteristics of Students with High Incidence Credits: 3 hrs
• SPE 3340 - Characteristics of Students with Behavior Disorders Credits: 3 hrs

Total Credit Hours: 12

Electives

Select a minimum of six semester hours from the following courses.

• SPE 3305 - Methods of Teaching Math to Students with Special Needs Credits: 3 hrs
• SPE 3315 - Behavior and Classroom Management Credits: 3 hrs
• SPE 3323 - Language and Communication Disorders Credits: 3 hrs
• SPE 3325 - Methods of Enhancing Reading Skills for Student with Exceptional Needs Credits: 3 hrs
